Why is it a no solution? My book says the answer is 2/3.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

You do get 2/3 when you square both sides and solve.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

I checked it and it didn't check but I just realized that I forgot to take the square root of the left side so it does check and 2/3 is the answer.

I just tried doing that, but my answer keeps cumming out as 2x^2=4, I squared both sides and then added like terms. Do you know where I went wrong?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

\[\sqrt{x ^{2}+5}=3-x\] \[x^2+5=(3-x)^2=9-6x+x^2\]

OpenStudy (mertsj):

\[5=9-6x\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I see my mistake now, thankyou very much! :)

OpenStudy (mertsj):

\[-4=-6x\] \[\frac{2}{3}=x\]
