A thesis statement is what you are trying to prove in your essay. Examples: In Guy de Maupassaunt's 'The Necklace' Madama Mathilde Loisel is disgusted with her social class, she yearn for wealth and high social status, which brings about her downfall.
       Then in the rest of your essay you would give support about how her greed blinded her and brought about her downfall. Hope that helps! =)
