Explain why there are domain restrictions for tangent and cotangent functions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because both tan and cot are ratios of sine and cosine: tanx = sinx/cosx and cotx = cosx/sinx. if the denominator of these fractions is ever 0, tanx or cotx would not make sense (dividing by zero).
