What happens to the area of a rectangle if its length and width are multiplied by 3

Think of how area is calculated. It's legnth * width. So if you multiply both by three you get (3*length) * (3 * width) which is the same as saying 3*3*length*width. 3*3 is 9 so if you increase the length and width by three times the area will increase 9 times or be multiplied by nine.
it will increase by 9 times the original one...
