Write an equation to find x. 6x + 16 = 2x + 12; x = 2 6x + 16 = 2x + 12; x = 1 6x + 16 + 2x + 12 = 180; x = 19 6x + 16 + 2x + 12 = 180; x = 26

Which part do you not understand? It seems to me like you just substitute the value of x into the equation; for example, in the first one, if x=2 then you would write: (6*2) + 16 = (2*2) + 12
