Which of the following best explains what would happen if there were no decomposers in an ecosystem? Answer Heterotrophs would overpopulate and cause herbivores and producers to die out. Organic compounds would not be available for use by autotrophs. Primary consumers would adapt to recycling the nutrients that autotrophs need for photosynthesis. More producers would increase the amount of energy transferred between producers and consumers.
