The distance between the end of a lamppost’s shadow and the top of the lamppost is 39 feet. The angle measure of the shadow is 23°. How long is the shadow of the lamppost to the nearest tenth of a foot?

Length of the shadow = x Now x = adjacent side and hypotenuse = 39 adjacent side we know cos Θ = ------------- hypotenuse x so cos 23° = ------ 39 so 39*cos 23° = x value of cos 23° = 0.920504853 so x = 39*0.920504853 x = 35.899689267 x = 35.90 approx
so length of shadow is approx 35.90 ft
