A stone is thrown into a deep well and it strikes the water after 1.2 seconds. The speed of sound is 300 ms. What is the depth of the well. Explain.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2d=v*t d-distance v-speed t-time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

distance is doubled ot time is halved because because time we hear the sound of stone it covers both up and down distance or u can say it takes half time to reach bottom of well and half to our ear from bottom

OpenStudy (anonymous):

300ms= d x2 / 1.2 180 m ?? But the answer in the book says 360? i dont get it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yah..sorry i hve explained wrong i think;in the ques. time is taken when stone has hit the bottom . so its jst simple d=v*t
