There was once a young cricket who was an excellent fighter. He had competed in almost every street battle in his commune and had won each and every one of them without fail. This not only made the young cricket fearless but also highly overconfident of himself. There was news of a fighting championship taking place in his commune and the cricket signed up, fully assured that he would win. The cricket's opponent hardly had any experience but it worked hard and practised it's skill every single day. The young cricket however, did not practice as he thought that this championship would be no different from all the other battles he had taken part in. The day of the championship finally approached and the young cricket had simply lazed around and enjoyed himself and had not practised at all. The battle took place and the cricket had lost. He finally learnt that no matter how experienced one is in a certain field, they still have to practise to always be the best.

You could also refer to the cricket as it instead of him..
