A sign designer created a sign in the shape shown below. The semicircles are congruent to one another with a diameter of 4 inches. What is the perimeter of the sign? Answer about 38 inches about 78 inches about 76 inches about 80 inches

OpenStudy (amistre64):

there are 3 circles; so we need the circumference of 3 circles each with a diam of 4 then add in the 2 sides

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the rectangle to fit it would be 4*6+40 = 64 so it has to be bigger than 64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 76 inches?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

maybe ... lets see :) 3(C)+40 ; C = dpi 3(4pi) + 40 = 12pi+40 pi is about 3 so 36+40 = 76 but that 78 is to close for comfort; how accurate you need to be on pi?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

im thinking it is at least 76 since pi is a little bigger than 3

OpenStudy (amistre64):

google says: (12 * pi) + 40 = 77.6991118

thanks
