If a rubber band can be stretched to a circular shape that has a radius of 2.5 inches. How many 1.4 mm diameter toothpicks could fit within it.(1 inch=25.4mm) Please draw how you do it

OpenStudy (espex):

If you have a radius of 2.5in, at 25.4mm per inch, you have a converted radius of 63.5mm. Using the area formula\[A=\pi*r^2 \rightarrow A = \pi *63.5^2 \rightarrow A= 12667.7mm^2\] The toothpicks have a 1.4mm diameter, suggesting they are round, so they have an area of \[1.5mm^2\] so, \[12667.7/1=8445 \space toothpicks \]
