(5/x)+(4/x-1)=1

OpenStudy (mertsj):

\[\frac{5}{x}+\frac{4}{x-1}=1\] \[5(x-1)+4x=x(x-1)\] \[9x-5=x^2-x\] \[x^2-10x+5=0\]

OpenStudy (mertsj):

That one won't factor so use the quadratic formula.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=5+sqrt8, 5-sqrt8

OpenStudy (mertsj):

\[x=\frac{10\pm \sqrt{100-4(1)(5)}}{2}=\frac{10\pm \sqrt{80}}{2}=\frac{10\pm 4\sqrt{5}}{2}\]

OpenStudy (mertsj):

\[x=5\pm2\sqrt{5}\]

Ok, I'm having trouble with this whole sqrt thing. Just don't understand it. Thanks for your help
