Is Neurofibromatosis an environmental or an inherited gene?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

About 90% of neurofibromatosis is caused by inheritance of a mutated neurofibromin gene (it's also known as NF1for short). NF1 is known as a tumour suppressor gene - as you can imagine without it cells grow out of control. The effect of mutation is to cause proliferation (overgrowth) of cells associated with neural tissue). The symptoms include lumps under the skin, pigmented spots and pressure on neurons caused by excessive growth.
