Is Neurofibromatosis an environmental or an inherited gene?

About 90% of neurofibromatosis is caused by inheritance of a mutated neurofibromin gene (it's also known as NF1for short). NF1 is known as a tumour suppressor gene - as you can imagine without it cells grow out of control. The effect of mutation is to cause proliferation (overgrowth) of cells associated with neural tissue).
