find the derivative of cos ^{2}(3t+5). please step by step so i'll know how to do it in the future

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\cos ^{2}(3t+5)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

chain rule 3 times. bring down the 2first of all. then do the cos portion and then the inside of the cos fn. 2cos(3t+5)(-sin(3t+5))(3) = -6cos(3t+5)sin(3t+5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i'm able to bring that 2 in front of the cos?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i find it easier to visualize as : (cosA)^2 where A is whatever function, and you would do -2cosAsinA as the derivative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh that really helps. thank you thank you!!
