OpenStudy (anonymous):

solve each system by graphing and tell whether it is consistent or inconsistent if the system is consistent tell whether it is dependent or independent.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x-y = 6 5x-5y=30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you agree that these two lines have the same graph?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look at both lines carefully... do you see anything peculiar?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

don't need to graph, look at the equations...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didnt say you had to, but it's easier to say that than "do you think these two lines have the same equation"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

When two lines have the same graph they are consistent and dependent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well it says on here to graph them so can you help me do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Consistent = At least one solution (intersection of the two lines) Dependent = Same graph Inconsistent = No solutions, they never touch and therefore are parallel Independent = 1 solution, two different lines

When you have time, this video does a good job explaining how to graph a line http://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/linear-equations-and-inequalitie/v/graphs-using-slope-intercept-form and here is a 2 minute video that shows plotting just one point http://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/linear-equations-and-inequalitie/v/plot-ordered-pairs
