What is isotopic effect?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There are two types of isotopic effects 1,Kinetic 2.magnetic 1.The kinetic isotope effect (KIE) is the ratio of reaction rates of two different isotopically labeled molecules in a chemical reaction. 2.Magnetic isotope effects arise when a chemical reaction involves spin-selective processes, such as the radical pair mechanism.

There is a line in my book... Sulphonation reaction shows Isotopic effect. What does it mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its is due to electrophile subtitution and also sulphonification is an reversible reaction which shows positive isotopic effect
