we have two x+8 sides and two 18-3x sides. 2 * (x+8) + 2 * (18-3x) = 36 = The perimeter 2x + 16 + 36 - 6x = 36 52 - 4x = 36 -4x = 36 - 52 = -16 -4x = -16 x = -16 / -4 = 4 x = 4
