I am not sure the verb tense of interview report. Which one is correct?
1. He thoght the advantage of animal research was that medical research could save human lives.
2.He thought the advantage of animal research is that medical research can save human lives.

The first one is correct. "Thought" is past tense, and "was" is past tense. But "is" is in the preset tense, so it won't work.
