(3x)/(x - 1) + (2x)/(x - 6) = (5x² - 15x + 20)/(x² - 7x + 6) Factor denominator of right hand side. (3x)/(x - 1) + (2x)/(x - 6) = (5x² - 15x + 20)/((x - 1)(x - 6)) Multiply by (x - 1) to cancel it out on the left and right side. Remember to multiply the second term by it though! (3x) + ((2x)(x - 1))/(x - 6) = (5x² - 15x + 20)/(x - 6) Same thing with (x - 6). (3x)(x - 6) + (2x)(x - 1) = 5x² - 15x + 20 Distributive property and simplify. 3x² - 18x + 2x² - 2x = 5x² - 15x + 20 Combine like terms. 5x² - 20x = 5x² - 15x + 20 Subtract 5x². -20x = -15x + 20 Add 15x. -5x = 20 Divide by -5. x = -4
Please don't put it in a .docx ever ever again... it's EXTREMELY inconvenient.
