How can a square root be found without a calculator?

OpenStudy (bahrom7893):

like this: sqrt(4)=2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know trial and improvement could be implimented but that is pretty useless for something like root 2

OpenStudy (lukecrayonz):

Simplify it, such as sqrt(900), 300*3, 30*10, break down 30 to 15*2, 15 to 3*5, then your 10 to 5*2, then move like numbers to the outside of the radical.

OpenStudy (lukecrayonz):

I'll draw something, bahrom, i'll need your help on my geometric sequence problem.
