Anyone taking Cousera's Probabilistic Graphical Models?
I'm new to Octave/Matlab and just slogged through the first assignment. So glad to have finished it.
Though enrolled, i'm still busy with circuits! Am glad you did it, congrats!
I need to go back to Circuits today. See what curve balls are headed my way.
Nothing much for you really, its just for the people like me who like to eat the pie at the very end! Homework 1 and Lab 1 close out today!
The lesson of the day for me is this: don't underestimate the amount of time it will take you to be competent in a new language! It turns out for the PGM assignment you don't have to write very many lines of code at all. But from scratch, it took me hours and hours to figure out exactly what lines of code I needed.
HW1 and Lab1 weren't too bad. Although I was very surprised they were graded on the spot and you can submit multiple times (I made an error in HW1, which I fixed immediately).
I concur. Yeah the homework is very interesting especially Poor Workmanship, and thank god we can submit multiple times, its exactly what i have been doing the whole day :D
Yes, they were interesting. I think the Circuits course is very thoughtfully constructed.
Its looking good in these initial weeks, but i fear the neatness will explode when things like MOSFET come into action, time management will play a crucial role, because i dont expect all homeworks to be as simple as this first one.
Sure. Similarly, if the PGM assignments get harder, it's going to be one challenging course. I assume things will get a bit easier now I'm moving up the Octave/Matlab learning curve.
Yeah. I will check Language, probability and algorithms hopefully today and decide which one's i should carry on.
Are you taking only the Stanford one's or all?
I wanted to take PGM, NLP and Cryptography. But between Circuits and Thrun's Robotic car, I have enough course work I think. So I need to consolidate and probably drop NLP. NLP's first assignment also has me at a bit of a loss. I'm sure I could figure it out, but it's all new syntax as well and I'm just not sure I have the time right now.
(all of the Regex stuff)
Thats really great, methinks its a lot though, with six subjects and 4 labs at uni, i can only manage one more with circuits. Yeah i remember you mentioned that NLP's assignment was tricky. That seems to have wasted your time.
OK, i am still on the second part of H1P3, will finish it out and be back.
I'm going to log off and study circuits myself. Talk to you later Mr. Fox.
I dont know what time they are on, mine and theirs.
Yeah, bye James, and good luck!
you too
Though I am late in picking up the thread, I like your taste in classes. I am in circuits, crypto and PGMs. I'm where you're both at: circuits is routine as of now though I don't know how long that will last. The midterm will only let us submit three or four times and I think that will take care of a lot of people. Crypto is a lark and I expect it to stay that way. I might be surprised. And PGMs will be a time sponge but I expect it to be the most rewarding of the three. Good luck to you both.
