In terms of your paper, you should be gathering arguments both for and against and deciding which way you want to argue. The point could be argued either way -- if there were no controversy, there'd be no opportunity for argument (or persuasion). Whichever way you decide to argue, be sure to include rebuttals of the strongest counterarguments an opponent arguing against you could use. That way your paper will be stronger.
