1.How is energy produced in the sun’s core? 2.Why can astronomers see the surface of Mars clearly, but not the surface of Venus? 3.Do you think astronomers have found all of the moons of the outer planets? Explain using concepts discussed in this chapter. 4.Describe what might happen if an asteroid the size of the one that hit Earth 65 million years ago hit Earth today. 5.Why do astronomers think there could be life on Europa?

1. hydrogen atoms are fused into helium by thermo-nuclear reactions in the Sun's core 2. Mars has little atmosphere, or at least a transparent one. Venus is covered by dense clouds mainly of CO2, N, and SO2. The surface is about 460oC, and the atmospheric pressure about 93 Bar (93 times that of the Earths atmosphere). 3. I believe there are more moons to be discovered. Yesterday I was reading a book about our solar system that was printed in 2003 and it said Saturn has 18 known moons, well Saturn now has 62 known moons. In 7 years 44 moons have been discovered. I don't know what your "chapter" says about it though... 4. It isn't likely that one would hit Earth, but if it did hit Earth, what you would have is a mile-wide asteroid striking the planet's surface at about 30,000 mph. An asteroid that big traveling at that speed has the energy roughly equal to a 1 million megaton bomb. It's very likely that an asteroid like this would wipe out most of the life on the planet. 5. There is an ocean on Europa which contains liquid water. Other than the Earth, Europa is the only place in the solar system where we have found liquid water. Life as we know it is very dependent upon liquid water, and life is believed to have originally evolved in the water, before moving to the land. I get your situation, but next time, ask in the correct section!!
