there are 52 cards in a deck (not counting 2 possible jokers)
they are composed of 4 different suits: spades,clubs, hearts, and diamonds
that makes 13 cards in each suit
they are numbered 1 (also known as "ace"), 2, 3...,9,10, jack, queen, king
hence the queen of hearts is the queen card with the suit of hearts
the ace of spades is the number 1 spade card, etc.
