simplifyyyyyy!!!! f(X)=(3x^2-4x+1)/(3x-1) sing complete sentences, explain why f(1) = 0, f(0) = –1, and f(–1) = 2, yet f(1/3) is undefined. Make sure to show your work.

OpenStudy (phi):

f(x) is short for the complicated expression (3x^2-4x+1)/(3x-1) It saves typing. f(1) means replace all the x's with 1's. Then do the arithmetic. can you replace x with 1 in (3x^2-4x+1)/(3x-1) ? you would get (3*1^2 -4*1+1)/(3*1-1) (remember, for example, 3x is short hand for 3 times x. when x is 1, this becomes 3*1) 1^2 (one squared) is short for 1 times 1 or 1*1 Can you simplify by doing the arithmetic?
