Choose the simple predicate in the following sentence. The men finished the game in a short time.

"finished the game" Remember that the predicate is whatever the subject does, it always has a verb.

The verb is 'finished' and, in my school, our simple predicate is simply the verb. However, the simple predicate phrase is 'finished the game' because 'in a short time' is a prepositional phrase. You would include the prepositional phrase if you were asked to list the complete predicate.
