Hi all, can someone help me with this geometry question, please:) I have a rectangle so V=hwl. I have 3in x 3in x 4in. I get 36 in. but the answer is 36in^3? Could someone tell me why it's to the 3rd? This is for volume of rec. Thanks in advance for any help:) Denise

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hi Luis, but how is that to the 3rd power?

OpenStudy (radar):

The units are .in (inches) so inches x inches x inches is cubic inches volume is normally in cubic units, as area is in square inches.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh I have it now Luis, I got the page back

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it's inches to the 3rd?

OpenStudy (radar):

yes which is also cubed!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 is cubed

OpenStudy (radar):

What you had was rectangular container. Yes x^3 is also x cubed.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, I remember my instructor calling to the 3rd, cubed. Geesh, our classes are so condensed, they cram a ton into 8 weeks or 9 I guess:(

OpenStudy (radar):

That makes it tough, when it comes at you so fast.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you both, you guys have been such a help to me! Denise:)
