hi again, I just worked this equation, -14 = y + 8 and got -22=y. But the directions say to use the addition property of equality. I subtracted 8 from both sides to get that? Am I doing it wrong? Hep me somebody hep me, LOL!!

OpenStudy (phi):

you added -8

OpenStudy (phi):

subtracting 8 from both sides is the same as adding -8 to both sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, but just to the -14, so then that is using the addition property even if it's only on one side?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, that I remember hearing in class too, and, it's somewhere in my notes or book. Thank you soooooooooooo much;)

OpenStudy (phi):

the addition property of equality. that allows you to add -8 to both sides. afterwards you can simplify y+8-8 to just y

OpenStudy (phi):

subtracting 8 from both sides is the same as adding -8 to both sides.

gotcha, thank you again for all your help:) My final is tomorrow and I am doing review questions:)
