Comparing and contrasting characters in any story is not as hard as it at first seems. The trick is to come up with generic character questions that can be applied to both. Many students make the mistake of reading the story and then asking pointed questions about each character and this doesn't work so well. So come up with a list of questions that you can ask about either character. For example: What motivates Romeo/Paris? What does Romeo/Paris value most? What is Romeo's/Paris' attitude toward the Capulet family? Come up with a list of personality traits for each. Those are just a few. You can probably come up with more (the more the better). After you have answered all of your questions and made your lists. Find the things that are the same or similar and these will become the talking points for the compare part of the essay. Find the things that are different and these will be the contrast portion of your essay. Don't feel like you have to use every detail you came up with. Pick the most relevant points. Some of the details you come up with will not exactly compare or contrast well. Just through those out. Look for the comparisons and differences that really stand out. For example, one comparison that you could use is the love for Juliet that both of them share. Hope this helps.
