Mrs.Gee has 24 carpet squares. Each square measures 1 foot by 1 foot. How many different rectangles could Mrs.Gee make with the carpet squares? Which of the rectangles would have the smallest perimeter?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

24 Carpet squares = 1 ft by 1 ft I would think you were just typing too fast and that should say squars not rectangles right??????

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

If he has 24 carpet squares and each one is 1 ft by 1 ft, then the total area of the carpet is 24 ft^2. So you need to find all rectangles that have an area of 24 ft^2. This boils down to finding all the factors of 24.
