Perimeter is simply the distance covered by the path of the particle.

It really depends on what you are attempting to calculate the perimeter of. The perimeter of an object is typically the sum of it's parts. For example, the find the perimeter of a square, you simply add the lenght of all four sides together. For a rectangle, to calculate perimeter you use the formula 2L + 2W (Length + Width).
