What is the value of the y variable in the solution to the following system of equations? 3x + y = 11 –3x + 2y = 1

OpenStudy (radar):

Add those two equations and the x term will be eliminated. Leaving 3y=12 dividing by 3 (on both sides) y=4 substitute 4 for y in first equation. 3x+4 = 11 Subtract 4 from both sides 3x=7 divide both sides by 3 x= 7/3 or 2 1/3
