In △DEF, what is the length of segment DF ?

OpenStudy (swag):

i had this question :O

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry.... 27/DF = sin(60) DF = 27/sin(60)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sin(60) = 0.866

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think you have to use the pythagorean theorum but idk how.. if you know how, can yu show me lik step by step..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can't use the pythagorean theorem because you are NOT given two sides of the triangle and asked to find the third side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are given an angle and a side. So, you have no choice but to use trigonometric ratios.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YOu can also use laws of cosine

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is what my question looks like..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sin(60) = opposite side / hypotenuse. In this case, the opposite side is given to be 27.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sin(60) can also be written as SQRT(3)/2. |dw:1332252812363:dw|
