Another *NIX question: The BSDs have originated from the venerable Berkeley campus of UC, and unlike Linux, they are complete operating systems with their unique kernels and some non-GNU code. Why do Linux-based OSs prevail over the BSDs?

Linux has gotten better press than, say, FreeBSD. Linux also had the advantage of Red Hat Software packaging and selling a distro. Given a choice, I prefer AT&T *nixes.
