Find the average rate of change of the function f over the given interval. f(x)=0.25x^4-x^2-9x+8 from x=-4 to x=3

OpenStudy (freckles):

\[\frac{f(-4)-f(3)}{-4-3}\] Use this to find the slope of the secant line from x=-4 to x=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand how you put that into the problem.

OpenStudy (freckles):

No you put the problem into that

OpenStudy (freckles):

Do you know how to find f(-4)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Would you put it into the equation?

OpenStudy (freckles):

Replace the x's in your function with -4's

OpenStudy (freckles):

Then to evaluate f(3) Replace the x's in your function with 3's

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what I got is for f(-4)= 92 and f(3)= -7.75...is that right?

OpenStudy (freckles):

That is right ! :)

OpenStudy (freckles):

\[\frac{92-(-7.75)}{-4-3}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ooooh wow I get it now! Thank you so much!
