Two people are participating in a 15 mile Walk-a-Thon. Person A covers the full distance at a constant speed. Person B covers the full distance also, at a speed of 1mph greater than that of Person A. The two individual times, summed up, total 16 hours. What was the walking speed for both people?

OpenStudy (experimentx):

let 't' be the time of A and then the time of B is 16-t set x be the speed of A then x+1 is the speed of B then we have, t*x = 15 & (15-t)*(x+1) = 15 --- solve this equation you will have the answer on this page http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=t*x+%3D+15%2C+%2815-t%29*%28x%2B1%29+%3D+15
