When adding ing to a verb that ends with a vowel consonant combination, you double the consonant and then add ing. Ban = Banning Fan = Fanning Trip = Tripping When adding ing to a verb ending in a consonant followed by an e, you drop the e before adding ing. Pine = Pining Dine = Dining Take = Taking
Well look at the words that you are given in your questions and check the letter combinations that you have before the ing. This will help you determine what the verb would be before adding ing. Basically you would do the reverse of what I did above. Ban = Banning = Ban Fan = Fanning = Fan Trip = Tripping = Trip Pine = Pining = Pine Dine = Dining = Dine Take = Taking = Take In other words, remove the ing first and see what you have: Tripping = Tripp Taking = Tak And then determine what verb you have: Tripp is not a correctly spelled verb so the actual verb must be Trip. Tak is not a correctly spelled verb so the actual verb must be Take.
