OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you solve for a intercept like and x-intercerpt for example 8x − 1y = −6 find its x-intercerpt

OpenStudy (amistre64):

it stems from the very definition of what an x intercept is

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how would you define an x intercept

OpenStudy (apoorvk):

see x-intercept is the length of the segment from origin to the point where the line cuts the X-axis. |dw:1332370334969:dw| now the at the point of x-intercept, ordinate is zero. ( the 'y' part) so in the equation of the line substitute y with 0. now the value of x will be the coordinate of the intersection point and also the mength of the intercept. so if the point is (a,0) then the intercept is a units long.
