find the degree of the monomial 12m^7n

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks bro

OpenStudy (masterchief):

wait, its \[12m ^{7n}?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (masterchief):

If so, the degree is 7, not 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how?

OpenStudy (masterchief):

Because the exponent is at 7, and there is no higher exponent. Why would there be an extra one? If it were something like 5x, the degree would be 1 because 5x is the same as 5x^1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea but n also has 1 exponent

OpenStudy (masterchief):

Oh I see what you are doing, I thought the n was after the ^7. Sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its ok :)

OpenStudy (masterchief):

Like not with it.
