describe the effect that the amplitude has on the period of the simple pendulum

OpenStudy (anonymous):

increasing the amplitude will increase the period of the pendulum i believe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

clue: try to explain how the amplitude of the simple pendulum is directly proportional to its period.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because, i believe, to increase the amplitude you have to pull the bob up higher and because it has to go a greater distance. This will cause the wavelength to increase. This increase in wavelength will increase the period because it take a longer amount of time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is of course assuming that is is plotted on a graph with time on the x axis and meters on the y axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uhm no sorry...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wh do you say no?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is no graph... the conclusion should be that the amplitude of the simple pendulum is directly proportional to its period.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok well thats basically the same thing. because ill try to sketch it
