What is Unix's future, now that OSX and Linux dominate the OS scene? What is a future OS like?
What will become of the Windows NT family?
Right now they are transforming into metro style interface, apps would take over everywhere... Unix and Windows NT as already dead i guess, except they teach about them at uni.
With Microsoft's market share, I'm afraid that they're not going away soon. Some of the recent developments in *nix is almost like Unix is becoming more Windowsish. I'm not a fan of super-duper daemons like launchd and systemd.
Mac OS X is a Unix, as is iOS in many ways, so asking what will become of Unix isn't really a fair question. If you mean officially termed Unix systems, Mac OS X is also one of those, being officially licensed as such. IBM AIX is also a relatively well used Unix in the enterprise. As for the Windows NT *family*, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows Servers 2003 and 2008 and probably Windows Server 8 will all continue to be descendants of the NT family, as far as I know, so they're not going anywhere either.
