how does listening to your work out loud help to improve your sentence fluency?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Your ears are very tuned to the language. Often students write down on the page sentences that they would never actually say -- sentences that are awkward, convoluted, unnatural. If you read your work aloud, you can hear what you are actually saying. Eventually, you should be able to do the same thing silently, hearing your own words very distinctly in your mind, as though they were being read aloud. But especially for a person who is not much of a reader, someone who does not read for pleasure, reading aloud can help to train the inner ear.

That's my take on it, at any rate. There may well be other aspects to the process I've not taken into account.

You can hear it and not just be reading it in your head! ;) Hope that helped
