(4x?) - 6 / 9 = 2 What is ?

So we have two variables, \(x,?\), and one equation. Mother tells me that this is literally impossible to do, but we could always find a relationship between the two variables such that, if we ever find one, obtaining the other should be easy. Add \(\frac{6}{9}\) to both sides, and divide by \(4\). Then you have a direct relationship between \(x\) and \(?\).
