divide the percentage by 100

if you have 37 and 1/2 %, percentages are always out of 100. Think of it like a fraction. In this case, the fraction would be 37.5/100. divide that out on your calculator and it should give you the right answer. One way to remember it is like this: if you have 100% , you have 100 out of 100, and the decimal would be 1.00 So, if you place the decimal after the hundreds spot and before the tens spot, you have effectively changed your percent from a percent to a decimal. In your case, you would put the decimal before the 3 in the 37.5, since the three is in the tens place. Therefore, 37 1/2% (or 37.5%) would be .375
