what is an inequality?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An inequality is basicallya statement about the relative size or order of two objects. x>2, When you see that you know that x can be any number that is greater than 2. basic inequalities in algebra are a lot like equations. ex. 7x>21 you can divide both sides by 7 to get x>3. The difference is that if the inequality was -7x>21, when you divide both sides by a negative number(in this case 7) greater than becomes less than, and vice versa. the answer to this would be x<-3
