Are Mods able to see our msgs we send to other users?

OpenStudy (farmdawgnation):

Hi ZyariaBoyd, This is a question we've been getting a lot recently. In short, yes and no. Global Moderators (people who don't work for OpenStudy, but help moderate the site) can only access messages you exchange with another user if one of you hits the "Report Abuse" button. Then they can access that to investigate possible Code of Conduct violations. Administrators (people who are employed by OpenStudy) can, of course, access the information, just like employees of Facebook can access your messages on there. Usually, we only do this if we need to for data analysis (looking at how many messages are sent over a timeframe, average length of message, etc) or if we're required to investigate an issue that is against our Code of Conduct or Terms of Service where an Abuse Report could not be filed. We are not in the practice of patrolling Direct Messages in the same way we do Group Chats and Questions posted to the group. So we won't be "spot checking" direct messages for CoC violations like we do the other parts of the site. Does that answer your question well enough?

Yes. Thank you for you help.

Farmdawg is 100% correct. The only reason we do any diving into direct messages is if we receive an abuse report. If we receive an abuse report, look at the message, and are concerned about the user's interactions with others, we may investigate further. Otherwise, one of the two people in the message (sender or receiver) has to report abuse to bring us to a given message.
