find the tangent line approximation to f(x)=1/x near 4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well we know that the slope of the tangent line is the first derivitive. so the first deriv of x^-1 is -1x^-2. so, from there, can you solve this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do i use this f(a)+f'(a)(x-a)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

indeed! this i believe that is just another form other than point slope. so f(a) is 1/4 and fprime of a is -1/16.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/4+-1/16 (x-1/4)
