Sarah investment in stock grew 12% to $392. How much did she invest?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i think the algebraic equation is let x = original stock so.. x + .12x = 392 1.12x = 392 x = 350 so 0.12x (investment) = 42

OpenStudy (anonymous):

actually you were correct to look for x = so your answer of 350 is correct. $42 reflects the amount of growth.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

i dunno what investment means...is it the amount increase? or the original amount?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

42 not right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's 350......

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

then it's 350...like i said...i dunno what investment meant :)) not good in business math

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.12(x)=392 x=350 I agree with the $350 starting amount.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.12 I = $392 => I = $ 350
