The parabola has two x-intercepts, so there are two real solutions. This means that the discriminant is some positive number.
The actual equation is (x-2)(x+4) = x^2 +2x -8 So the discriminant of the polynomial x^2+2x-8 is D = b^2 - 4ac D = (2)^2 - 4(1)(-8) D = 36 So the discriminant is 36
Luis you have a typo on the last line, but everything else is correct.
It's obviously that discriminant > 0
