how would i solve:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (nottim):

Well, all the denominators in a equation must be the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(1/x)+(3/8)=(1/2) (1/x)=(1/2)-(3/8) 1/x=(4-3)/8 1/x=1/8 x=8

OpenStudy (nottim):

not the answer, mind you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply both sides by \(2\), proportionally increase/decrease the ratio of fractions such that the denominators are equal, and then multiply both sides by \(8x\).

OpenStudy (nottim):

sigh...beaten to the punch line. May the best man win I guess.

OpenStudy (nottim):

I ahve no idea what noradetzky said, So I assume totally yes.

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

multiply everything by x so x will go to the top.. 1 + 3x/8 = x/2 1 = x/2 - 3x/8 1 = 4x/8 - 3x/8 1 = x/8 cross multiply x = 8
